What is the Social Thinking® Methodology?

We practice social thinking throughout our day, not just when we are sharing space with others. Everything from driving a car, reading a book, scheduling playdates, attending a conference, sending an email or text requires us to think socially. We have to consider our own and others thoughts and feelings, predict how others may feel based on our actions, problem solve, use flexible thinking and more.

Michelle Garcia Winner developed The Social Thinking® Methodology as a way to teach the competencies that underly our everyday social skills. Individuals are not taught how to behave in specific situations but are rather provided with treatment frameworks and strategies that encourage them to focus their social attention, interpret the social context, and socially problem solve to figure out how to respond.
